TOP SHELF SUMMER LEAGUE 2012

MITE-SQUIRT-PEEWEE-U16

Polar ice Youth Hockey Leagues (PYHL) are designed to provide your player with the best possible recreational hockey experience while teaching important skills such as teamwork, fair play and building confidence. All Polar leagues are NON CHECKING. Chandler and Gilbert youth hockey teams play as one league (The East Valley Polar Ice Hockey League) and will have games at both facilities, you will be drafted and practice at your home facility.

Summer league emphasis is on skill development, learning a variety of positions and of course, having fun. Our game format will encourage players to have equal ice time in a fun atmosphere.

Divisions

PYHL is comprised of 4 age Divisions following USA Hockey guidelines and are based upon the following Birth Years:

2003-2004 – Mite, 2001-2002 – Squirt, 1999-2000 – Peewee, 1995-1998 – U-16 Prep.

Game Format
Game Format: 5 on 5 games with 3-minute warm up, two 24-minute run-time periods and 2-minute break between periods

League Format

Evaluations will be held in April . There will be two evaluations for every division and every player will make a team. A parent meeting and player meet up will occur the week after teams are formed. The regular season will start shortly after. The League will run through the end of July.

There will be no youth league Memorial Day Weekend, Mothers Day, Fathers Day or the 4th of July.

Roster Rules

Players must join the age appropriate league according to USA Hockey guidelines or with approval from hockey director.

There is limited space available at both facilities. Availability is based on a first come, first serve basis. Players are not guaranteed a spot once league capacity is met.

Teams will be chosen to reflect a fair playing environment; the hockey director reserves the right to adjust rosters for league parity if needed.

We cannot guarantee car pool requests and coaching requests can not be granted, however siblings in the same division will be placed on the same team.

               To All Players and Parents,

To clarify, the Summer league is a developmental league just like always. So far the only difference will be that the games will be run with two 24 minute periods instead of three 12 minute periods, this will increase the playing time from 36 minutes to 48 minutes. The break in between periods will increase from 60 seconds to 2 minutes.  This is similar to the National & International Hockey Festival format.

**We will not be playing music during the regular game play. If the scorekeeper chooses to play music during stops in play like some of them do, that is their decision, but it will only be during stops in play, just like always.

**There will not be automatic shift changes every minute at the sound of a buzzer. The coaches will decide when a shift change will occur, just as it has always been, there should be a lot more shift changes on the fly, making for a faster paced game.

** We will not keep individual player stats

** We will keep team stats

We have added 5 extra games this summer, the season will consist of 10 practices and 15 games. Practices will be held between Friday and Sundays and games will be held Monday through Thursdays. The exact days of the week for each division is almost finalized and as soon as it is, it will be posted to the website.

Please feel free to email me directly with questions, we would hate to see players choose not to play due to rumors that are not true.

 Thanks

Mindy French Youth Hockey Director
